I.                   Logging into the Quarantine

All mail deemed to be spam by the filters is available in quarantine on the filter servers themselves this quarantine is accessible by following these steps.

1.        Using your Internet browser go to: http://users.netstarguard.com/

2.        Provide your email address and password to the login form.

3.        Click the Login button.

II.                Creating white lists (Trusted Senders)

White lists are addresses from which you want to always get mail.  A white list can be created by following these steps.

1.        Click on the ‘Settings’ link at the top of the Web Quarantine page.

2.        Click on the ‘Trusted Senders’ link.

3.        Either fill out the ‘Email’ box or the ‘Domain’ box depending on which method you want to take to permit this mail through the filters.  If you where to create your white list by filling out the ‘Domain’ box you would simply enter the domain of the sender’s email address.  For example if you wanted to always permit all mail from any @aol.com email address through you would simply type: aol.com in the ‘Domain’ box.  If you just wanted to permit one individual address through you would type the entire email address of the sender in the ‘Email’ box.

4.        Click on ‘Add’ to save the new entry.

III.             Deleting white lists (Trusted Senders)

Some white lists cannot be deleted by end users, especially those created by the server administrator; however those created by end users themselves can be deleted, to do so follow these steps.

1.        Click on the ‘Settings’ link at the top of the Web Quarantine page.

2.        Click on the ‘Trusted Senders’ link.

3.        Check the box next to the entry you wish to delete.

4.        Click the ‘Delete’ link.

An entry that cannot be deleted by you will be identified by it’s presence in the “Server Trusted Senders List” table.  These entries can only be modified by those with access to the Administrative Spam portal, currently ldial@netstartel.net, and tcherry@netstartel.net are the only individuals authorized to modify the Server Trusted Senders List.

IV.              Creating black lists (Blocked Senders)

Black lists are addresses from which you do not want to receive mail from.  A black list can be created by following these steps.

1.        Click on the ‘Settings’ link at the top of the Web Quarantine page.

2.        Click on the ‘Blocked Senders’ link.

3.        Either fill out the ‘Email’ box or the ‘Domain’ box depending on which method you want to take to deny this mail through the filters.  If you where to create your black list by filling out the ‘Domain’ box you would simply enter the domain of the sender’s email address.  For example if you wanted to always deny all mail from any @aol.com email address through you would simply type: aol.com in the ‘Domain’ box.  If you just wanted to deny one individual address through you would type the entire email address of the sender in the ‘Email’ box.

4.        Click on ‘Add’ to save the new entry.

V.                 Deleting black lists (Blocked Senders)

Some black lists cannot be deleted by end users, especially those created by the server administrator; however those created by end users themselves can be deleted, to do so follow these steps.

1.        Click on the ‘Settings’ link at the top of the Web Quarantine page.

2.        Click on the ‘Blocked Senders’ link.

3.        Check the box next to the entry you wish to delete.

4.        Click the ‘Delete’ link.

An entry that cannot be deleted by you will be identified by it’s presence in the “Server Blocked Senders List” table.  These entries can only be modified by those with access to the Administrative Spam portal, currently ldial@netstartel.net, and tcherry@netstartel.net are the only individuals authorized to modify the Server Blocked Senders List.

VI.              Retrieving Legitimate Mail from the Quarantine

Some percentage of time, legitimate mail will get treated like spam this is an inherent danger when ever Spam filtering is employed as a method of reducing the amount of spam received, however because every piece of mail that is thought to be Spam is placed into a quarantine this mail is not irretrievable.   To retrieve mail that is legitimate follow these steps.

1.        Log in to the Quarantine portal as described in Logging into the Quarantine above.

2.        Locate the piece or pieces of mail that you need to receive.

3.        Check the box on the right-hand side, then click ‘Select Action’ then ‘Release Messages’

This will release the message(s) you selected by checking the box(es) on the right-hand side of the screen.  Selecting the ‘Release and Report as Legitimate email’ option simply tells the filters that the mail is legitimate; it does not create a white list.  To create white lists see Creating white lists.

Mail will reside in the quarantine for a period of ten (10) days, mail is removed from the quarantine on a first-in-first-out basis so the first message in the quarantine will be the first removed by the system from the quarantine.  It is highly recommended that you get into the habit of browsing through your quarantine on a regular basis as mail removed from the quarantine is not retrievable once it is deleted from the quarantine.

You decide what is spam and what isn't. You will have your own, password-protected Message Center with an easy to use interface that allows you to adjust filter settings from Lenient to Extreme, select the type of email you want blocked (Hoax “Fishing Scams”, Money “Get Rich Quick”, Adult “Sexually Explicit”, Miscellaneous “Special Offers, and Racially Insensitive”), and to “approve” or “block” specific senders or entire domains.

VII        Email Spooling

E-mail Spooling included in NET STAR Guard® Premium Spam/Virus Filtering

We all know that email has become critical for customers. A message returned to the sender because it could not reach your e-mail server, whatever the reason, reflects poorly on your business and costs money as important messages are never received. That's why we now offer Email Spooling! We offer this service as an add-on completely FREE, all of our competitors not only charge, but they charge you per Megabyte which can get very expensive.

NET STAR Guard®  Spam Filtering offers Email Spooling as a robust solution that is designed to help protect your business against:

  • Local loop failures that prohibit email delivery to your email server

  • Email server failures due to power outages, accident or vandalism
  • Email server failures in the form of computer virus
  • Disaster circumstances that destroy actual servers
  • Inevitable "routine" hardware failures of email servers
